Chemical Peels

As we get older our skin changes. Wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, and acne scars make your skin look much different later in life than in your youth. As you age, your skin stops shedding and replacing old cells with new cells, which makes aging visible. However, these natural processes can be reversed and alleviated with chemical peels.

How Does A Chemical Peel Work?
A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to remove the upper layers of skin cells. This tightens the skin, smoothing wrinkles and making your skin produce new skin cells so you look younger and more vibrant.

Chemical Peels Vs. Laser Resurfacing
Laser resurfacing and chemical peels have similar results. Both procedures remove the upper layers of skin to promote the production of new skin cells. Laser resurfacing, however, can leave undesirable redness.

Light Peels
Chemical peels are available in a range of strengths. A light peel, such as an alpha hydroxy acid peel (AHA), is used to treat:

· Uneven skin tone
· Acne
· Fine wrinkles
· Rough skin texture

“An alpha hydroxy acid peel is a good choice for those who need a less intensive treatment,” says Dr. Jerrold C. Gendler, who administers chemical peels in his New York office. “There are some that are sold over the counter in a low concentration, but longer-lasting effects can be achieved if a patient allows a doctor to apply a higher concentrated alpha hydroxy acid peel.”

Medium Peels
A trichloroacetic acid peel (TCA) goes deeper than AHA to produce more dramatic results. This is usually a better option for darker-skinned patients than a deep peel, which may lighten the skin.

TCA is a good choice for those who wish to treat:

· Wrinkles
· Pigment issues
· Skin blemishes

Deep Peels
Deep peels last longest and offer the most dramatic results. The deepest and strongest peel is a phenol peel. This type of chemical peel treats deep skin wrinkles and sun damage. There is a possibility of skin lightening when undergoing a phenol chemical peel, so you and your doctor will need to discuss whether this would be a good choice for you.

The Effects Of A Chemical Peel
After a chemical peel your skin will look smoother, more even, and younger. The easiest way to understand the effects a chemical peel can have is to examine before-and-after photos online. 5 Reasons to Use Skin Lightening Treatments by Linda Bennett

0

Written on August 31, 2009 by Ralph

People choose to invest in skin lightening products for several reasons and it doesn’t have anything to do with hating the skin they were born with. Here are 5 reasons why people look at buying a skin bleaching cream to help resolve a skin discoloration issue.

1. Lighten underarm area
2. Remove acne scars
3. Remove sun spots
4. Skin lightening treatments are safe to use
5. A product can be found to suit your budget

Lighten underarm area
The underarm area tends to be a little darker than other areas of the body so a good quality skin lightening cream or soap can help to restore a balance so that there is no longer a patchy or uneven look.

Remove acne scars
It is not nice to be someone who suffers from acne and it is even worse to be left with a lasting reminder in the form of acne scars. Using a skin lightener can help to reduce those dark uneven areas on the face and neck so that the skin looks brighter and blemish free.

Remove sun spots
If you are a sufferer of sun spots, using a good quality product to reduce the appearance will be of tremendous benefit.

Skin lightening treatments are safe to use
These creams go through strict tests and are regulated so they are safe to use.

A product can be found to suit your budget
Bleaching creams and soaps are available in different price ranges so you can find something that is good quality and affordable. That means that you do not have to take out a loan in order to invest in improving your appearance.

If you need to do something to help balance out and give you an even skin tone, you would be wise to invest in a good skin lightening treatment.

My First Botox Experience by Anke Stoner

0

Written on August 29, 2009 by Ralph

We started offering Botox & Restylane at our spa a couple months ago.  We have a doctor come in once a month to treat clients because a lot of clients were either asking about it or already getting it done elsewhere. So I decided to jump on the bandwagon!  Just know that I also had ulterior motives!

I have been playing around with the idea of getting Botox done on myself for sometime to get rid of the deep line between my brows, which I was educated that it actually has a medical name “The 11 Line”. I has always referred to it as the “No” line, from telling my daughter “no” all the time accompanied by the mean look.

After 3 visits from our Botox doctor I finally got the courage up and Anthony finally allowed for it to happen. I have to admit, being a newbie, I was somewhat nervous about the pain and the results, but hey, if I gave birth, I can do anything.

We decided to take before and after picture of my wrinkles. So we can expose them on our website (coming soon to www.ASerenity.com in case you’re interested in looking at them). Anthony is taking nice close-ups of all my flaws which is great for my confidence, but I’ll take one for the team.

The doctor had already scoped me out the previous times he was at the spa and pointed out more issues I needed addressed, thanks doc, and decided to work on my forehead, do a slight brow lift and take care of my crows feet.  He made me make some faces at him so he could see where he needed to inject me.  The poking started.  It was actually not as bad as I imagined it would be.  It stung a little but honestly I think waxing my brows hurt more.  After about 5 minutes I was all done.  That’s it.  He wiped the residue, stepped back to admire his work and let me get back to work.

I immediately ran to the mirror thinking I wouldn’t recognize myself, but it was still me, only with a little redness as if I had gotten a facial with extractions on my forehead. Great!  I had a dinner meeting right afterwards and wondered if I should put make-up on to hide the evidence, but decided it might not be a good idea.

Anthony hushed me up against a white wall to take the after pictures and commented that he couldn’t tell that I had anything done. Just what I wanted to hear, torture for nothing.  By the time I went to dinner the redness had gone away.  I could still move my forehead and make faces and it didn’t feel numb like I thought it would.  It really didn’t feel like I had anything done.  Did it work?  I wondered.

When I woke up the next morning, I immediately ran to the bathroom, to look in the mirror.  Low and behold my crow’s feet were almost non existent.  My forehead looked smoother and the 11 line was fading.  I was told that it will take 3 to 5 days before the true results show so I will sit and wait.  In the meantime I can’t wait to tell all my clients about my experience.
